Day 96: Electrolytes

Happy Tuesday and Day 96 of Another 100 Days of Hannah, y’all!
First things first: that king-size bed?  Stellar.
My first night’s sleep this go round was much better than the first night last travel week.
I’ll take that as a win.
Plus, working in a different time zone today means I was able to sleep in and still get all my morning routine in.
(And, it’s only like a 40 minute drive this morning, so I don’t have to leave quite as early as I do on a normal day around home.)
In other news, y’all, can we just be amazed at how much salt and hydration can affect function?
During the night, when I woke up, I was admittedly parched.
But, I decided to go without getting a drink (because I had forgotten to have my water bottle by the bed and I didn’t feel like getting up again to get it).
From that point on, my sleep was more broken, and my dreams were more of those ‘can’t wake up’ type (just not as extreme as last travel week).
This morning, I was admittedly a bit more groggy than usual.
Until I drank half a bottle of Gatorade.
Y’all, I immediately felt better.
Like, seriously.
And this isn’t the first time that this has happened.
Over the past year, I’ve begun to notice that on days when I’ve had less to drink, or been out in the heat more, my sleep will be really restless, and I’ll just be completely exhausted.
Until I eat/drink something super salty and increase my fluid intake.
It doesn’t always make everything perfect, but it generally helps – a lot.
From a medical perspective, I’m sure it has to do with electrolyte imbalance and my general tendency to excessive vasodilation and low blood pressure.  With this in mind, I know ‘more salt, more water’ isn’t advice that is applicable to everyone… but, it definitely does make me wonder if improving electrolyte balance could help with exhaustion in more than just me.
Just a thought.
